Mr. Jonsson’s House
Video / 15mins
Constructed from ten existing houses and interviews of inhabitants in those houses in Reykjavik, the work tells a story of a fictional character of Mr. Jonsson and his labyrinthine house. The longer the audiences hear his story, the blurrier the impression of Mr. Jonsson; his gender, age, personality, and memory, becomes. While not grasping a clear impression of Mr. Jonsson, the audiences come to sense collective characteristics of Icelanders; their shared memory, senses and atmosphere through his story.
It was made during my stay in Reykjavik, in the dark winter month in 2009.
